Staff fundraising initiative for the month of April raises money for rare genetic condition Tuberous Sclerosis.

Tuberous Sclerosis is a rare genetic condition affecting suffers to varying degrees. The name is derived from the tube like growths that occur on the brain and other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs and skin. This condition is estimated to affect 1 in 6,000 people and currently the only course of action is regular laser treatment that aims to slow down the growths, but by no means stops the growths. Recent research gives new hope. A topical cream has been discovered that is shown to slow down and in some cases, reverse the facial lesions.

The Australasian Tuberous Sclerosis Society in conjunction with the Sydney Children’s Hospital aims to raise $200,000 to get a formal medical trial of the cream underway.

Prompted by an NGA.NET staff member several fundraising initiatives were put in action for the month of April for this worthwhile cause. Last Friday the impressive grand total of $1,355 was announced which brings the Australasian Tuberous Sclerosis Society a step closer to reaching their target. A fantastic effort by all Netters!
